Medal chaser
Ancaster High School sprinter Emma Roung competed in three events at last weekend's Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Championships at Mohawk Sports Park. She took the bronze medal in the Junior Girls 200-metre in a time of 25.55 seconds. She narrowly missed the podium in the 400-metre event, shown above, placing fourth in a time of 57.97. Emma also finished sixth in the 100-metre event.

Hitting the ground running
Hundreds of runners pounded the pavement for the 25th annual Ancaster Old Mill Road Race to kick off Heritage Days. Kenyan runner Moses Macharia, above, won the 10-kilometre event in a time of 29:54, just 13 seconds off the course record. Kate Macnamara of Dundas was top female and 17-year-old John Erik Rasmussen was once again the fastest man from Ancaster with a time of 36:07, good for ninth overall. Hamilton's Alex Meyer won the five-kilometre event in a time of 16:34. Five Ancaster residents were among the top 10, including Jonathon Little, second, Brandon Smith, fifth, Derek Hambly, seventh, David Hopton, eighth and Philip Zabel, tenth. For the first time in race history, prizes were available for any runners who could break the course record.

The Hamilton Transway Major Bantam AAA girls basketball team capped off a successful season by winning the gold medal for Division One at the Ontario Basketball Association provincials in Ottawa.
