New life for old tree
A famous Churchill Park oak tree may not be providing a shady spot to relax anymore, but it still offers a place to rest. The tree was cut down last summer because of rot and decay. Hamilton forestry superintendent John Taylor (back left), together with Ward 1 Councillor Brian McHattie (front right) and Westdale Secondary School woodworking teacher David Kipp (back right) and his 20 Grade 12 students, decided to save as much as they could of the tree and use it to make park benches. A special tribute and birthday celebration was held last Friday night at the Dundas Valley School of Art. Mrs. Farnan and her late friend Emily Dutton founded DVSA in 1964. Under Mrs. Farnan's guidance, the school has grown steadily, and is now nationally and internationally known for its high quality of programming. Close to 300 friends and supporters were on hand to honour Mrs. Farnan's remarkable achievements.

Robin McGinlay from the Burlington Footnotes Senior Performing Troupe and visitor Dennis Carr ham it up for the camera during Springfest, sponsored by Dundas Community Services and Amica at Dundas. The seniors fair featured a variety of participants offering health and wellness information for seniors. The Footnotes troupe began in 2000 with six members and has now grown to more than 100.

Thunder roars
The Ancaster Thunder Under 11 boys team won their division in the Ancaster Heritage Days tournament. The team went undefeated in round-robin play and advanced to the championship game on a penalty shootout. Ancaster then defeated Brantford 1-0.
