Peter D. Haight stands among some of the artwork at the Dorland-Haight Galleries Inc., which recently celebrated its grand opening at 92 King St. W. in Dundas. The gallery deals in international and Canadian art, and offers archival custom framing and restoration. Among the first to contract with the U.S.S.R. when Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev announced glasnost and perestroika in 1985, Dorland Haight Galleries also features the work of many Russian and eastern European artists, along with Hamilton's own The Tiger Group.

Professional forester Philip Rogic, right, and daughter, Elisa, 3 1/2, found Ancaster's biggest mulberry tree during the annual contest held by the Ancaster Township Historical Society. The tree, measured by Jim Green, left, has a diameter of nine feet, four inches. The white mulberry sits in the heart of the village core on Wilson St. E. between the Tim Horton's drive through exit and Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home. Each year, the Ancaster Township Historical Society sponsors a search for the largest tree in one pre-determined species. The winner is announced at the Annual Fieldcote Soire during Heritage Days.

Flowers and stuffed animals were left by the front door of the Smith family home on East 11th this week after a holiday weekend traffic accident in Virginia claimed the life of Bill Smith, his wife Sandra Smith, and their seven-year-old daughter Kaylee.

Dundas resident John Atkinson attended this week's Cruise Night, hosted by the Ancaster Optimists at the Ancaster Canadian Tire parking lot. Mr. Atkinson's 1968 Chrysler 300 has made frequent appearances during the Ancaster Heritage Days Parade. Over the years it has carried Hamilton Mayors Larry Di Ianni and Bob Wade and Councillors Murray and Lloyd Ferguson. Cruise Night takes place every Tuesday evening during the summer.
