135692 Rainforest adventure

Kids from four congregations took part in this week's Ancaster Community Vacation Bible School. Fifty-two youth from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6 participated in outdoor games, activities and learning sessions. This year the school was held at Ryerson United Church, in conjunction with Marshall Memorial United Church, St. John's Anglican Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian. This year's theme was Rainforest Adventure.

Nick Lawson, owner of Envoke in downtown Dundas, decorated his bike with a Quebec flag to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City. As part of the Downtown Dundas Business Improvement Area's Let's Ring Out Together promotion, there was a sidewalk sale, gastronomic treats, free horse and buggy rides and artists and musicians with a French flair.

Twelve friends hosted a car wash event at Eccles Auto Service with proceeds going to the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. Ally Burns, her mom Janet, aunt Susan Bowker and cousin Meaghan Bowker are participating in the event this year and must raise a minimum of $2,000.

As part of her 92nd birthday celebrations, Ada Davies and some family members saw the Jay Leno show at the Fallsview Casino Avalon Theatre on July 4. Ada's son, Bob Marquis, said when the family arrived at the hotel, Jay Leno was in the lobby looking at brochures about Niagara Falls. "We approached him about wishing Mom a happy birthday," said Mr. Marquis. "He shook her hand and wished her all the best, then asked if we wanted to take some pictures."

Congratulations to the Ancaster Minor Cardinal All-Stars who captured the District championship for the first time in 14 years. Eight-year-old Jacob Parkinson took part in this week's Ancaster Community Vacation Bible School, hosted by Ryerson United Church. In this group challenge, shown above, participants learned about sharing, as they passed balls of crumpled newspaper back and forth. Rainforest Adventure was the theme of this year's Bible camp. Fifty-two children signed up for a full week of fun activities.
