Town-wide event set for Feb. 16.
Plans are now underway for the 2008 Ancaster Community Food Drive.
The door-to-door donation drive is set for Saturday, Feb. 16.
More than 400 volunteers are needed to help make the event a success. Last year's food drive netted a record haul. Organizers hope to set a new record for 2008.
All donations will be delivered to Hamilton's major food agencies, including Neighbour to Neighbour, The Salvation Army, Greater Hamilton Food Share, St. Matthew's House, Mission Services of Hamilton, Wesley Urban Ministries, Good Shepherd Centre and Ancaster Community Services.
Look for volunteers at your door on Saturday Feb. 9. from 9-11 a.m. to distribute flyers.
On Friday Feb. 15, from 6-8 p.m. student volunteers will pack donations at the St. John's Church Parish Hall.
Due to safety concerns, Youth under the age of 14 are welcomed to help outside but not on the floor.
The donation drive follows on Saturday Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"We collected 77,000 pounds of food from the 2007 drive," noted organizer Jan Lukas. "The need is great and together we can make this a successful effort."
Volunteer drivers are needed to canvass routes throughout Ancaster.
The collection will take about 2 - 3 hours with most routes producing an overflowing trunk-load of food.
The town-wide food drive covers more than 300 routes across urban and rural areas.
