
In Ancaster Veteran Slo-pitch action on Sunday, June 29 the A's, Sox and Braves won while the Giants and Brewers and Tigers and Pirates tied.
The A's scored four runs in the sixth to edge the Indians 13-12. Jim Johnston's single started the rally and Ray D'Andrade finished it with a two run single.
Mike Freshwater, John Dudzic, Brian Goodram and Bruce Berglund were all perfect in thee trips.
Bras Pascuttini, Rob Cavalieri, Rob Robichaud, Richard Brooks and Bill Pridmore all had three hits to lead the undermanned Tribe.
Losing pitcher Ken Boyko deserved a better fate.
The Sox came from behind with two runs in the seventh to edge the Cardinals 8-7.
Paul Hammond clouted a two run homer for the Sox. Rob Haddow was four for four, including a triple, while Don Freeman was three for four.
Greg Atkin anchored a tight outfield to support the effective pitching of Don French. Randy Crispo, Pat Moulden, Bill Thompson and newcomer Chris Chevalier all had two hits for the Cardinals.
Outfielders Larry Smith and Mike O'Neil were pillars behind pitching ace Frank Hruska.
The Tigers and Pirates tied at six. Vince D'Onofrio and Ken Moulden each had two hits to lead the AL leading Tigers. Outfielders Dave Anderson and John Belanger made scintillating catches.
Pitchers Frank Rocchi and Ron Lacroix turned in solid efforts.
Dave Weir doubled in a pair for the Pirates while Rick Pearson also had a clutch double.
Bob Harris pitched well for the Bucs.
In the NL battle for first place the Brewers and Giants tied at 11. Mike Harris led the Brewers with three hits, Kevin Kading beat out two bunts and Dave Harrington tore up the base paths.
Danny Nelson, Rob Scollard and John Sullivan flashed the leather to back the solid pitching of Frank Simpson. Dave Borer hit for the cycle for the Giants, Brian Radke had three hits and Mark Edmondson tripled. Rob Winger sparkled at third, outfielder Grant Hill had a hot glove and pitching ace Dave King shackled the opposition.
The Braves clipped the Orioles' wings 19-8 led by the awesome hitting of Keith Beaver with five hits.
Brian Carey snagged three deep flies, Mark Cheshire was sharp at third and Darryl Ferguson speared a hot liner.
Ron Brown handcuffed the Orioles.
Bernie Mobach legged out an inside the park homer to lead the Orioles, John Carnahan swung a hot bat and Ken Hockley fresh off the DL hit well.
Jay Howes and George Balansche were in a double play and pitcher John Winegarden speared a vicious liner.
Vet action resumes on Sunday, July 6 at the Community Centre diamonds at 4 o'clock.
