
The Tigers, Indians, Sox, Cardinals and Braves all claimed victory in Ancaster Vet slo-pitch play on Sunday, July 20.
The AL-leading Tigers edged the Orioles 10-9. Ken and Mike Moulden led the winners with three hits each while Dave Anderson had two hits and two RBIs. Greg Wilson flashed the leather at third, catcher Lee Revill made a great catch to save a run and outfielder Andy Price made a sensational catch. Wayne Daniels and Bill Dunfield led the Orioles with two RBIs each. Kerry Trevaskis had a hot glove to support the solid pitching of John Winegarden.
The Indians downed the Pirates 15-6 as Bras Pascuttini, Matt DiTommasso and Phil Tiessen hammered the ball. Outfielder Rob Cavalieri caught two of Rick Gunter's blasts up against the fence. Pitching aces Mike Gustar and Ken Boyko shared the win. Tim Wilkinson was four for four for the Pirates and Norm Sogan had three RBIs. Ron Edwards continued his smart hitting while John De Zoete tore up the base paths.
The Sox downed the Giants 6-3, led by Don French's solid pitching and hitting and good batting from Brian Hill. Bill Tomlinson, Mike Schuster and Bill Pulsifer sparkled defensively. Grant Hill was three for three and Rob Winger was two for two to lead the Giants. Jim Gaudry and Brian Bick led a stout defence.
In game two, the Sox came from behind with four runs in the seventh to tie the Giants at seven. Bill Snyder was three for three, and Chuck Gibson and Greg Atkin were two for three. Rob Haddow was sharp defensively. Pitcher Dave King was perfect in three trips, Gord Winger doubled and Grant Hill stood out defensively. The Giants are now even with the Brewers at the top of the NL.
The Brewers lost 9-8 to the improving Cardinals. Chuck Paglia, Chris Chevalier and Hank Vipari led the winners. Pat Moulden was a tower of strength at short, Frank Hruska and Randy Crispo both pitched well. Paul Burroughs doubled, Dave Harrington had a good day at the dish. Carl Burnet made a great snag at second. Lefties Mike Harris and John Parrett pitched well.
The Braves hammered the A's 13-1 led by Brian Carey's four hits, Dom D'Avella was three for four and Harry Hill tripled. Neil Panabaker was a pillar at short behind the sensational pitching of Ron Brown and Jim Smith. Jim Johnston went three for three. Ray D'Andrade was also three for three and made scintillating catches at short while Bill Grahlman had a solid two way game for the A's.
Vet action resumes on Sunday, July 27, at Copetown at 10 am.
