Listed in the “very small” category of Canadian universities and colleges, Redeemer received an A+ in overall student satisfaction. The very small category lists institutions with less than 4,000 students.
The survey is produced in partnership with The Strategic Counsel and Higher Education Strategy Associates, who graded 53 universities on a number of key criteria by surveying 38,000 Canadian university students about their experiences. As an independent, Christian university, Redeemer receives no government research grants or core academic funding. Undergraduate tuition fees are estimated at $12,409. The Globe report measured student satisfaction by several 55 criteria. Overall, Redeemer students ranked their university above average in 40 categories.
“We are very pleased students rank Redeemer so highly in so many important areas,” said Richard Wikkerink, associate vice president, student development and registrar at Redeemer. “It is especially gratifying that students are so satisfied with the quality of education they receive and with our campus atmosphere. Those results are a testament to the work of our faculty and staff in creating a Christian academic community.”
Redeemer president Dr. Justin Cooper sees a larger trend in the survey.
“These results speak well for Christian universities and for all small universities across Canada,” he said. “The strong scores of those in the “very small” category are an affirmation of the role that these institutions have in our national system.”
Students said they appreciated Redeemer’s Christian-oriented curriculum, the close-knit community, small classes with one-on-one interaction, mandatory core courses and the townhouse-style dorms with weekly, communal meals. Redeemer has an undergraduate student population of 681 and a $13 million annual operating budget. The full survey results can be accessed at www.globecampus.ca/navigator .
