The book is published by the museum, and traces the history of the medical and other health professions in the town.

Dr. David Richardson, who helped develop the Doctor's Office exhibit on site at the museum, and himself a retired Dundas family physician, was involved in the preparation and publication of this book.

Dr. Smith is also the author of Hamilton's Doctors -1932-1982, which was published by the Ambrose McGhie Medical Museum (located at the Medical Arts Building) and the Hamilton Academy of Medicine.

The book offers an opportunity to explore the legacy of healing, and those who have been healers, throughout the generations in Dundas from the time of the First Nations to the opening of McMaster Medical Centre in 1972.

In his introduction, Dr. Smith writes: “This is not only a history of medical science and of physicians and surgeons. It is much more than that. You will meet nurses, mothers, medicine women and medicine men, homeopaths, chiropractors, dentists and pharmacists: healers all.”
