Iroquoia Heights, located north of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway between Highway 403 and Scenic Drive, falls within Hamilton’s urban boundaries, where hunting is forbidden by a city bylaw.
Hamilton Police Sergeant Terri-Lynn Collings said officers responded to a report of possible hunters in the conservation area Nov. 22 at 5 p. m. after a local resident discovered a deer pierced by an arrow.
“(Hamilton) officers searched through the park and checked the entry points of the park and did not find evidence of any hunting,” Collings stated in an email.
She said the resident indicated the deer was alive and well and was scared off before police and animal control personnel responded.
Collings said citizens should call police if they see anything of a suspicious or criminal nature. Illegal hunting can also be reported to 1-877-TIPS-MNR.
