In an economy when job losses too often dominate the news, the John Howard Society's new Career Links initiative delivers innovative support for Hamiltonians facing layoffs, downsizing or restructuring.
"When an individual is facing a job loss, it's an incredibly challenging and stressful time in her or his life, not to mention their families," said David Lane, JHS executive director. Funded by Employment Ontario's Rapid Re-employment Initiative, Career Links delivers customized support services to those who have experienced a lay off, downsizing or restructuring, directly or indirectly, in the manufacturing, tourism, forestry and agricultural sectors. The program, which takes clients from assessing their skills to determining the most realistic course of action that will lead to employment, is open to Hamilton residents who are either on notice of lay-off, on salary continuance or who have already been laid off.
