Skate Canada has announced former Dundas resident Donald Knight will be among four individuals inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame.

In addition to Knight, who will be inducted into the athletes category, honourees include Maryjane Strong of Hamilton, in the profession category as coach, and Jim Proudfoot and George Gross in the builder category as sports journalists.

Don Knight, who began his figure skating career with the Dundas Figure Skating Club in the late 1950s, won bronze medals at the 1965 World Championship and the 1965 North American Championship along with the gold at the 1967 North American Championships. He also captured three Canadian titles (1965-66-67) after being crowned National Junior Champion in 1961. Today he serves as the head profession at the Burlington Figure Skating Club.

Many long-time Dundas residents will recall how the community rallied behind him by providing financial assistance during the early days of his fledgling career.

Donald Knight has done Dundas and Canada proud.
