May Day will be partially absorbed, for me, by the Hamilton & Region Potters' Guild sale. It fills the Dundas Community Centre, King and Market Streets, upstairs, downstairs and by kind permission, even part of the Seniors' Centre is pressed into service for the one hundred or so potters' work. Beryl Budnark is the spring sale's featured artist. Her display will be just inside the entrance on the main floor.

There are baskets available for collecting your choices, a roomful of cashiers who will take your cash or credit card. Free admission and all sorts of conveniences. The Guild has been running spring and fall sales for more than 25 years and are better organized than many large businesses. Every potter must have each piece scrutinized by a committee. Teapots and jugs must pour without dripping. Glazes must be flawless. Lids must fit.

You will see members wandering around with a big smile and "Ask me" badges. These folk will answer your questions or find someone who can. How to find a certain potter's display or where to find the washroom. Be sure to fill in a ballot at the reception desk. If you are lucky, you could win a piece of pottery. You should also have the Bach Elgar Choir performance of Haydn's The Creation on your calendar and on the back of your hand, if you are a faithful F.R., Saturday, May 3, 8 p.m. at the lovely Melrose United Church, Locke St. and Homewood Ave., Hamilton. They are joined by the Hamilton Philharmonic; Charlene Pauls, soprano; Marka Dubois, tenor; Bruce Kelly, bass. It is sung in the original English version which predates the German. At the Carnegie Gallery from April 29 - May 6, 7 - 9 p.m., the two Dundas High Schools, Parkside and Highland Art Departments will present their annual exhibitions. Opening reception is Friday, May 2, 7 - 9 p.m. Sir John A. Macdonald is May 6 - 13 with their reception May 9, 7 - 9 p.m. I highly recommend this. This is an annual favourite of mine.

The 33rd annual Dundas Division, Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year presentation was a well attended event. MPP Sophia Aggelonitis was the well-spoken guest speaker. A twenty-one gun salute for Carl Fraser our citizen of this year and for Jordan Bowman, the Youth Volunteer. Each received a standing ovation and one of Shirley Elford's exquisite and unique glass sculptures. Shirley is recognized for her Juno Award sculpture.
