Conference showcases precious resource

Hamilton Rotarians host a District Conference in October with the theme of Water.
A variety of conference activities have been designed to showcase the magnificence of water, our world's most precious resource. The Conference is open to both Rotarians and the public.
Friday night's keynote speaker is one of Canada's best-known science journalists, Bob McDonald, host of the popular CBC Radio Show, Quirks and Quarks.
Mr. McDonald is also a science correspondent and commentator for CBC TV and Newsworld Morning, and an author of books for both children and adults.
His 2000 collection of essays, Measuring the Earth with a Stick, was shortlisted for the Canadian Science Writers' Association Book Award.
In addition, there are 13 Saturday morning workshops from which to choose.
Dundas resident, Joe Hollick's multimedia presentation, Hamilton -- City of Waterfalls profiles the approximately 100 waterfalls within the city's limits.
At the Saturday night dinner, there will be an exciting video presentation, Discovering Hamilton's Waterfront. The conference committee has commissioned the new work by The Sprit of Nature Photographic Group, which comprises local residents Sandy Bell, Vic MacBournie and John MacRae. The three local photographers have combined their talents in producing stock photography and many audio-visual shows on local subjects. They recently produced a book titled Niagara Escarpment, A Photographic Journey from Niagara Falls to Tobermory for Lorimer publishing company. Their clients have included the Royal Botanical Gardens, Bay Area Restoration Council, Hamilton's Waterfront Trust, the City of Hamilton and the National Park Discovery Centre.
