In Ancaster Vet Slo-pitch on Aug. 31, the Braves, A's, Pirates, Tigers and Brewers won while the Indians and Giants tied.

The Braves edged the Sox 2-1 as Ron Brown and Don French hooked up in a terrific pitching battle. The Braves scored twice in the first and hung on. Outfielder Reg Sinasac made a spectacular catch while Frank Stechey sparkled at third. Chuck Gibson had three hits for the Sox while Brian Hill swung a hot bat. Greg Atkin was outstanding at short.

The A's downed the Cardinals 7-2 as John Dudzic had two two-run jacks. Mike Freshwater and Ken Dunhill hit well. Ray D'Andrade and Jim Johnston led a tight defence to support great pitching from Terry Stoltz and Henry Kirchner. Mike O'Neill and John Anderson hit well for the Cardinals. John Ribbecon, Pat Moulden and Hank Vipari led a solid defence behind pitchers Randy Crispo and Larry Smith.

The Giants came from behind with two runs in the seventh to tie the Indians at two. Grant Hill and Rob Winger each had two hits for the Giants while Gord Winger had a clutch hit in the seventh. Mark Edmondson led a solid defence while catcher Brian Bick played well. The Indians loaded the bases in the fifth with nobody out but crafty pitcher Dave King closed the door. Mike Gustar was a one-man gang as he shut out the Giants until the seventh, drove in the first run and scored the second. Brian McKeown had two hits and Robbie Cavalieri made a scintillating catch.

The Pirates came from behind with five runs in the fifth to down the Orioles 5-2. Rick Gunter doubled and tripled, Lloyd Zimmerman played well. Bob Harris and Ron Edwards shared the pitching win. Mike Hiltz drove in both Oriole runs. Infielders Ron Crowley, Kerry Trevasksis and Jay Howes led a stout defence to back the excellent pitching of John Winegarden and Al Hoar.

The Tigers edged the Brewers 6-5. Mike Moulden and Phil Scheiding were perfect at the dish. Dave Harrington and Rob Scollard had three hits each for the Brewers. Pitcher Frank Simpson made some great fielding plays.

The Brewers defeated the Orioles 7-2. Pitcher Mike Harris doubled and walked twice, Kevin Kading was on base three times and Al Fachnie hit the ball hard.

Vet action resumes on Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. in Copetown with the Cardinals hosting the Sox; however, the Brewers and Giants will play at 11:30 to decide the NL pennant.
