Absent: coach Carlos Recinos, Owen Norton, Nicholas Caamano, Riley Hambly, Damian Kirkelos.

The Ancaster Titans Under 10 boys soccer team was invited to Europe this summer to train with one of the top Dutch trainers and play games against five of the top club teams in Holland and Belgium. Forty-two Ancaster residents went on the trip -- 29 people from 11 families accompanied 13 players.

The team did not have high expectations in terms of the soccer because it is so popular in Europe but the boys did not disappoint. They represented Ancaster and Canada well. Of the five games played, the team won three, tied one and lost one.

The European teams were vastly superior technically but Ancaster's athleticism, hard work and determination frustrated opponents.

The boys learned a great deal about what it takes to win at the top level. Based on their experience, they know they have a lot of work to do on their technical skills.

The local group also toured the PSV Eindhoven training facility, watched the team practice and met some of the players.

The trip wasn't all about soccer, however. The families toured Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Valkenswaard, Antwerp, Brussels and Brugge. Some families also extended their vacation and are touring Germany, Italy and France.
