Ancaster native Brad Martin captured the gold medal in the men's halfpipe at the FIS NOKIA Calgary World Cup snowboarding competition .

Martin, 21, was among six Canadians to advance to the final round. He took the gold with 42.9 points. Fellow Canadian Jeff Batchelor was second at 40.8 and Norway's Tore-V. Holvik third at 40.7.

Three Canadians followed: Neil Connolly in fourth at 39.9, Justin Lamoureux fifth at 39.3 and Brendan Davis sixth at 38.1. Martin, third at the Calgary stop last year, earned his first career victory on the circuit.

"It's an incredible result," Martin stated in a press release from the Canadian Snowboard Federation. "It was a great competition and a great atmosphere. It was fun to have five other Canadians in the final."

Martin is one of Canada's rising stars on the snowboard circuit. He competed for Canada in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino and promises to be a key factor on the 2010 Vancouver Olympic team.
