The Burlington Panthers Major Midget Girls AAA Basketball repeated gold history by winning their second consecutive Gold Division 1 OBA medal and capping an undefeated tournament season in London.
Seeded number one in the province, Burlington defeated the Barrie Royals 47-46 with Xandra Yantzi scoring a basket with 0.1 seconds left to seal the win in a game high 20-point performance. Against Ajax Advantage, Yantzi led with 18 points along with Melissa Mullins and Jamie Ruttle, who scored nine points on the way to a 49-31 win.
Against the Gloucester Wolverines, Mullins led a balanced attack with 12 points in a 47-32 win. Jessica Craigie and Caroline McKenna both scored five points. In the semi-finals against the Brantford Briars, the Panthers won 50-41 with Mullins hitting for 16, Ruttle with 11, Yantzi with 10 and Rebecca Babcock with seven points.
In the gold medal game, the Panthers defeated Guelph CYO 57-50. Despite major foul trouble, Ruttle scored 20 points along with Yantzi hitting 14 points and Tournament MVP Mullins adding 13 points.
