On Sunday the Blues dropped an embarrassing 7-0 loss to Chippawa in a match the coaches didn’t really want to dwell on.
“It was a sloppy performance by every player from the drop of the puck,” co-coach Steve Aglor said.
Last Thursday provided the “up” part of the week, as the Blues took a 7-4 win over Aylmer. But it didn’t start out as one of team’s brighter games.
Aylmer’s Tyler DeDecker scored twice, including one powerplay goal, to give his team a 2-0 edge on Dundas after one period.
Mr. Aglor said the Blues followed a sloppy opening frame with “the two best periods” they’ve played so far this season.
Jonathon Cox scored a powerplay goal with assists from BJ Caco and Jake Windsor, just 19 seconds into the second period. Then BJ Caco tied the game up, from Blues leading scorer Cole McNeil, just six seconds later.
Aylmer took back a one goal lead, and the coaching staff decided to switch starting goaltender Shawn Krzykala with Scott Anderson.
Then Cody Collett took charge, scoring twice to give Dundas a 4-3 lead after two periods. Cole McNeil, BJ Caco and D. J. McConnell all picked up assists.
Cole McNeil, Kyle Draper and Nick Bazinet all found the net for Dundas in the final period, with assists from Jesse Healy, Kyle Draper, Scott Kearsley, Andrew Clark and Jake Windsor, while Aylmer scored only once more.
Blues owners and cocoach Dan Caco said a complete team effort paid off, in the final two periods.
“That is the team we need to show up every game,” he said. “We used our speed and went to the net well and the result was positive with the comeback after the first period.”
Check out the Blues at the J. L. Grightmire Arena on Market Street at their next home game, Thursday, Nov. 20 against Glanbrook Rangers.
The Blues also host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at Parkside High School on Monday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p. m.
